Climbing Kilimanjaro and then heading straight into the Serengeti for a wildlife safari is one of the great adventure travel combinations in the world. You challenge yourself on Africa’s highest mountain, then reward yourself with lion sightings, Maasai culture, and vast open savannah. Our Kilimanjaro and safari packages make it seamless — one operator, one booking, zero logistics stress.

Why Combine Kilimanjaro with a Safari?

The two experiences could not be more different — and that contrast is exactly why the combination works so well. After five to eight days of physical effort on the mountain, the complete relaxation of a game drive safari feels extraordinary. You go from cold, silent high-altitude wilderness to warm, wildlife-rich savannah within 24 hours. Many of our guests describe this transition as one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip.

Sample Kilimanjaro and Safari Itinerary (14 Days)

Days 1–7: Kilimanjaro climb via Lemosho or Machame route. Summit Uhuru Peak. Descend to Moshi.

Day 8: Rest day in Moshi. Recovery, gear laundry, celebration dinner.

Days 9–10: Tarangire National Park — elephants, baobabs, excellent birding.

Days 11–12: Serengeti National Park — Big Five, migration herds (seasonal).

Day 13: Ngorongoro Crater full-day game drive.

Day 14: Return to Kilimanjaro airport. Depart.

Which Kilimanjaro Route Works Best Before a Safari?

We recommend the 7-day Lemosho Route for its excellent acclimatization and high success rate, ensuring you arrive at the safari in the best possible condition. The 6-day Machame Route is a great option for those with less time. Adding a Mount Meru climb before Kilimanjaro is excellent for acclimatization and adds another remarkable summit to the trip.

Adding Zanzibar to the Combination

The most complete Tanzania adventure ends on the beach. After your climb and safari, flying to Zanzibar for four to six nights gives you the perfect recovery — warm water, good food, and absolute rest. Our Tanzania safari and Zanzibar packages can be preceded by a Kilimanjaro climb on request.

Physical Preparation for the Combination Trip

Kilimanjaro requires cardiovascular fitness and mental resilience — long days of sustained uphill walking at altitude. We recommend beginning training at least three months before departure. The safari portion that follows requires no physical preparation beyond an open mind and a sense of wonder.

Family Kilimanjaro and Safari Combinations

For families with teenagers, a Kilimanjaro climb followed by a Tanzania family safari is one of the great shared adventure experiences. The minimum age for Kilimanjaro is 10 years old. The safari can be done by children of any age.
